Connor Broadley selected as one of New Model Adviser’s Top 100 financial planning firms for 2020

We’re delighted to have been selected by New Model Adviser to be on its list of Top 100 financial planning firms for 2020. Below is the introduction from editor William Robins and NMA’s summary about why we were selected. It is good to see that our progressive investing proposition is resonating, as interest in ESG continues to grow.

Welcome to the ninth New Model Adviser Top 100, celebrating the best of the professional financial planning community.

Being in the Top 100 is something I hope everyone on this list will share proudly with their clients. But we are a publication first and foremost for the profession. We want readers to learn something about every firm that makes the list. That’s why this year’s profiles are a little longer than they have previously been.

It has been interesting to see how many firms have invested in brand new office premises this year. Many have been upgraded, sometimes to become carbon neutral. One firm even thought about what kind of trees and flowers were growing around the office to promote biodiversity.

One theme that has taken the investment world by storm this year is ESG. We were sure to ask whether investing in this way was gaining traction. The evidence suggests that firms are indeed recommending ESG funds more often, but that accompanies other green initiatives. Education events (for staff and clients), low-carbon business practices and new investment propositions are all visible.

Congratulations to all the firms that made this year’s list. I hope you all find it an enlightening and, yes, entertaining read.

Connor Broadley has fully embraced ESG investing this year.

As well as developing and promoting its ‘progressive’ investment proposition over 2020, which invests in sustainable funds, the firm has set its sights on gaining ESG accreditation. This ambition includes becoming part of the Meaningful Business community, which brings together businesses that want to meet the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Clients are enthusiastic about the green move, with 50% of funds recommended in the last year being classed as ESG. In total, clients now have more than £25m in ESG strategies.

As well as offering ESG, Connor Broadley meets client needs with a wide investment proposition. While many portfolios are built in-house, the firm also outsources for some clients. For example, clients from the US are offered a portfolio from Maseco Private Wealth, designed to meet the tax and regulatory requirements of US citizens.

Funds under advice: £343m

Fee-earning advisers: 10

Clients: 542
